Each pond holds five Koiro, koi fish painted with three colors: white for light, black for shadow, and one changing tone that carries a single emotional hue. Set against deep navy, the color of a winter night, with a teal gradient rippling through each spread like water disturbed by something passing beneath.

Koiro is a koi swimming upstream. Symbol of courage, perseverance, and transformation. Each time a different color fills its body, it carries a different feeling through the water.

The book closes with mixed pondscapes, fish from different chapters swimming together, their emotions meeting mid-current.
